Ep. 72 - The Get Down

We are celebrating love and music today with a short-lived show that made a big impact on both of us! The Get Down has become a modern-day cult classic and we understand why. Set in the South Bronx in the late 70's, the show's set design, costumes, great cast, great writing, and of course, great music had us hooked! We kept things pretty light this episode but we had a blast talking about our love of disco, hip hop, and punk rock. We talk about our favorite soundtracks of all time and Jeff tells a little story about how he went out of his way to impress a girl. Come take a listen!

Ep. 71 - Togetherness

We're continuing this month's theme of "Short-Lived TV Shows" with another hidden gem. Togetherness aired on HBO during the height of other popular shows like Game of Thrones, Silicon Valley, Veep, and Girls and simply fell through the cracks. Created by The Duplass Brothers (also New Orleans natives), this show is all about relationships, family, and friendship. Along with the pilot, we discuss our "red flags", times we had unexpected roommates, and we tell stories of going to the beach. Ep. 70 - Watchmen

Graphic novel. Feature film. Now, a series. Watchmen is regarded as one of the most unique superhero stories remembered most for its dark tones and one of a kind characters. Along with the pilot, we discuss our favorite comic books/movies/tv shows as well as stories where we had run-in's with the law. Come take a listen!

Ep. 69 - My So-Called Life

Angst. Hair dye. Plaid. Jared Leto. These are some of the things we think of when we think about our first show this month: My So-Called Life. To refer to this show as a cult classic feels like an understatement. This show is more like THE cult classic when it comes to 90s TV and it fits our theme of "Short-Lived TV Shows" to a tee. Regardless of what decade you were a teenager, My So-Called Life brings us all back to that era of our lives where we were full of self-doubt, angst, and all we wanted was to stand out. Ep. 68 - Grace and Frankie

It's never too late to start over and find your own happiness. Do you agree with that? Well, I'm not sure the titular characters of Grace and Frankie would agree, at least not in the pilot episode. We watched the pilot for a show neither one of us have ever seen but we certainly knew the cast because it's full of legends! Iconic comedic duo Jane Fonda and Lily Tomlin star in this charming comedy series about finding yourself in your 70s. Ep. 67 - Ginny & Georgia

How far would you go to protect your loved ones? That's a question you may find asking yourself while watching Ginny and Georgia. We're continuing Fresh Start January with this Netflix original that centers around a young mother and her teenage daughter, a premise we've heard before but this one's a little different. A long with the pilot, we discuss times we stood up for ourselves, times our parents stood up for us, and where we got our names. This is a fun one so you don't want to miss it! 

Ep. 66 - Happy Endings

This is a show that is very special to us because it's the first show that became "our show". Jeff introduced this series to Anna when they first met and we both fell in love with it. Happy Endings may seem like just another "friend group series" but for us, it's so much more. Along with the pilot, we discuss our love for this show but mostly we share our most embarrassing breakup stories. You don't want to miss this because it's a good one! Come take a listen!

Ep. 65 - Emily in Paris

If you were moving to a foreign country, wouldn't you at least try to learn the native language? This is a question that often comes up with the show we are judging today which is the Netflix hit series, Emily in Paris. Emily Cooper is your average quirky protagonist that has been offered a last minute job working in Paris forcing her to leave behind her old life and boyfriend. As the show progresses, many fans began to dislike Emily, something we weren't aware of, so this inspired Jeff to make a list of the most frequently ranked "Most Unlikable TV Protagonists" and we give our opinion on the matter. We also tell our own stories of being a fish out of water in a foreign country and how we dealt with it. This is a fun episode so stop reading this summary and take a listen! 

Ep. 64 - The Fresh Prince of Bel-Air

Easily one of the most iconic sitcoms of the 90s, possibly the most recognizable theme song ever, and also known for launching the career of one of the highest paid actors of all time... of course, we're talking about The Fresh Prince of Bel-Air! Jeff talks about why this is one of his all-time favorite shows, we discuss why we think this show had such a huge impact on pop culture as well as time we experienced culture shock, and much more!
